Job Description

Job Objective: The Pantry Coordinator is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the food pantry.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the food pantry in all areas in accordance with Kansas Food Bank and The Salvation Army food handling policies
  • Work with the staff and volunteers to serve clients in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Assist donors bringing in donations
  • Assist clients carrying out items
  • Keep communication open with all staff, supervisor, volunteers, and clients. Assisting with obtaining volunteers for food pantry, food drives, and other events
  • Assist in helping with food drives, commodities, donations, etc.
  • Pick up store donations, weighing them, and preparing them for food pantry or breadline
  • Maintain community agencies referral list and refer clients as appropriate
  • Maintain client files and fund balances in MAACLink database
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Food pantry or similar experience preferred

Certifications/Licenses: Food Handlers' Permit

Skills/Abilities:

  • Serve people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner
  • Communication skills verbal and written
  • Basic math skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English preferred but not required)

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Includes bending and squatting; standing for extended periods of time; walking up and down stairs multiples times daily; lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 40 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: Local

Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state of residence. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in pantry or locations where donations are received.
